22-Month-Old - First Hair Cut

Dear Sweet Pea,

And you got sick.

The start of another flu season in Singapore. I have lost count of months in the last 1.5 years. Everyday felt the same but a little different because I have you in my life.

Daddy brought you to the paediatrician and you looked visibly tired with dark eye bags. You were not your usual active self and were just leaning on Daddy the entire time you were waiting to see the doctor. In fact, the

flavour of this month was Daddy. Everything has to involve Daddy, from having a strong preference to him picking you up from school to asking for Daddy whenever it was my turn to keep you company.

Whenever Daddy picked you up from school, you would bid goodbye to everyone in class and run out of the door screaming for "Daddy"! You seemed as excited in leaving school as an employee clocking out of work at the end of the day.

One of your biggest achievement this month was being able to build a tall structure using Lego bricks without help! During play time, you decided to put the rubber duck into the toy watering can so we could all cook and eat it. You offered it to me and said, "duck soup". I really wasn't too sure what they have been teaching in school. Other children were playing with rubber duckies in water where all you wanted to do was to eat them. You are beyond a shadow of a doubt, my child!

You were finally able to sing the alphabet song! From "no my no my ABC" to "now I know my ABC", you have indeed came a long way. While some of the letters were still not pronounced accurately, I had to keep reminding myself you were not even 2 years of age! Another one of Nanny's package arrived with a very cute book, "Noni the Pony" and 2 hand knitted bears. You started enjoying the book and each time we read it to you, you would complete the sentences for us. You remembered that Noni's shimmering tail has the colour of Honey and she likes eating carrots, apples and Hay. Each time Noni's best friends appeared on the book, you would point them out to me, Dave dog and Coco the cat! I was pretty impressed by your good memory.

You still really liked the book, "Brown Bear Brown Bear, what do you see?" The key difference was, you would now be able to look at each picture and identify it as a yellow duck, a blue horse or a white dog. You were able to read and participate in reading the book with Mummy and Daddy! Adding on the repertoire of words you could say was the word sticker. And this would be the word that kept you entertained in the months to come.

Your very first hair cut!

Since you never had much hair to start with, your very first hair cut happened on 25 July. The fringe was getting too long and the lengths were uneven, you were beginning to look like a Rockstar. You were propped up the chair with a board to get you to the right height. The hair cut went well in the beginning as you kept looking over to us for support. We gave you instructions to look straight ahead and also encouraged and praised you.

The hair dresser then proceeded to turn on the iPad in a bid to keep you entertained and less apprehensive. However, as we did not expose you to any screen time yet, you were too stimulated by the graphics and broke out in tears. The hair cut went successfully only after we turned off the screen. We were so proud of you for sitting down obediently and waiting for the hair dresser to finish the cut despite being overwhelmed by the videos.

With Gratitude,

Mummy & Daddy

P.s. You tried your first babycino and marshmallow. Not a fan!
