20th Month - A Bagful of Antics

Dear Sweet Pea,

This month, we regressed back to a semi-lockdown state again. On the home front, it was not boring at all as we continued to watch your different antics unfold.

Along the way as you stumbled and tripped, you have learnt to walk better this month. The way you moved around rocking from side to side with a cute little pot belly sticking out cracked me up constantly. Daddy frequently played vinyl records on his turntable and I loved to watch you move up and down and danced about especially to Cat Stevens' Song, "Wild Word". I loved the way you giggled whenever we tickled you or when Daddy threw you up in the air. An unrestrained expression of joy and fun.

One of those incidents that was etched into our memories was when you laughed at Daddy's vending machine misfortune. The machine refused to accept Daddy's two-dollar note and kept spitting it out and we were so desperate for a drink after a walk around the Kallang river front!

We were still paying homage to your favourite activity, "Row row row the boat" this month! You have learnt how to categorise and sort out your toys. Mummy is a neat freak and I felt really heartened to observe you packing up your building blocks before opening another set of toys. Being a very organized baby, you had to make sure all the building blocks were dismantled before packing them away. No one is complaining though!

You have become more adventurous in your culinary pursuits. One thing I could not comprehend was your love for steamed fish skin. You gobbled up these cod fish skin up with relish each time. You would then put your hands together and imitate how a fish swim! You tried Mummy's homemade dumplings for the first time on 8 June and immediately took to it! This was the biggest compliment to me as you were still quite a fussy eater. This was also the phase where you explored your saliva where you frequently ended up spitting out both drinking water and saliva.

The start of monkey faces!

This month was overloaded with your sweetness. You loved to snuggle up close to us when we read you a book. You understood why an apology was necessary when you hurt us unintentionally. You knew how to "sayang" Mummy and Daddy and said sorry to us upon request. I loved that you would say "good bye" to us when we left the house and quickly followed it up with a "see you"! Hilarious!

Your grasp of vocabulary grew this month! You loved to say "please", "thank you", "sorry", "open" and "trousers". Mummy continued to speak and educate you in Mandarin, and this month, you were able to say "trousers" in Chinese. We made a first proper trip to the zoo and Mummy was really thrilled to be able to see Simba, the first lion cub born in the Singapore Zoological Gardens. During the trip, you were able to identify giraffe and zebra and during our regular reading sessions at home, you were able to point out crocodile, elephant, kangaroo and koala!

The adoration for "Uncle Bin" continued as you stood near the front door waiting for the refuse collector to show up every morning. You could now identify a dustbin and was always eager to help throw away your own nappies.

Due to Covid, we have not had a chance to bring you to a proper playground. This month, we brought you to one across the road. You started getting used to sitting on swings but were still scared of slides. You also tried your first bubble bath on 16 May and totally enjoyed it.

Towards the end of the month, you could only fall into a slumber while holding on to Daddy or Mummy's hands. Hence, there were many sleepless nights for us. We hope you would sleep better next month.

P.s. We celebrated my 2nd Mother's Day with you and I wanna say thank you for coming into our lives.

XOXO,

Mummy
